About Me

Spontaneous Projects is a chronicle of all of my projects, a reference for me, and a way to prevent others from making the same mistakes.

Hi, I'm Dane Evans

I'll assume that if you've found this blog you know a little about my chronicled projects, and the problems and puzzles that inspire and interest me. It is an ongoing process to revisit old solutions and improve on them, so I doubt that any of these projects will really be put to bed.

Here's what is not included in the main blog:

  • I grew up in Cooma, and currently reside in Canberra.
  • I love to travel, and would happily move just about anywhere in the world.
  • I've recently completed the coursework, to graduate in July 2014 with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Physics, and a Bachelor of Engineering majoring in Mechatronics.
    • Within this broad background, the areas that I have found particularly inspiring are fluid dynamics, computer vision, and digital circuit design.
  • I have played Ice Hockey for the last 4 years on a local level, including two second places and a championship as part of the Canberra Eagles. For the last two years I have also coached a both of the beginner teams. This has been a challenging and very rewarding role, helping to introduce players to the sport and teaching them how to play and think the game.
  • I'm an avid climber, caver, paddler, bushwalker and mountain biker. I love to be outside in the sun, or underground, leading and participating in trips varying from half day to month long expeditions.
  • I edit and contribute to a few other blogs, Gone Epic  which follows my outdoors pursuits, and Hockey Rookies which aims to address the challenges and difficulties that an expensive, fringe sport poses in Australia.
